1. I'm interested in becoming a donor, what do I do now?

It's simple, simply go to the 'Become a Donor' page and fill in the contact form.

2. Is egg donation legal?

Donation of eggs are legal according to the following act: National Health Act, 2003: Regulations regarding artificial fertilisation and related matters.

A donor may not be paid for her eggs, but she may be compensated for her time and effort and any transport costs. The amount is R6 000 per cycle.

4. May I register with more than one institution/agency to donate eggs?

A donor may only donate eggs at one institution/agency. A careful record is kept of all donors and their donations.

Yes, you may donate as many times as you want, but a donor may not have more than 5 ongoing pregnancies. It is not good to do stimulation back on back. You must have at least one normal cycle and period before donating again.

6. Who may become an egg donor?

Single or married women of all races between the age of 20 and 32.

7. Why is the cut off age for egg donation 32?

Egg quality is deemed to deteriorate with age.

8. Can a virgin be an egg donor?

Yes. The donor must be prepared to have an internal examination. If the examination is too uncomfortable the donor can stop the procedure and does not have to continue with the donation process.

9. Can one donate eggs while still breastfeeding?

No, first finish breastfeeding and then you can donate eggs.

10. Can I be an egg donor if I am on the PILL?

Yes, continue with the PILL until it is time to start with stimulation.

11. Can I donate eggs if I am sterilised?

Yes

12. What is the risks of egg donation?

Hyperstimulation of the ovaries and bleeding. You may feel a little bloated and uncomfortable for a few days after the aspiration. Hormone treatment will not cause or increase the risk of cancer in future years. For more information on the possible side affects, see the becoming a donor page.
